At a glance: Our Experience
We recently returned from our cruise on the new ship “Marina” operated by Oceania Cruises.
The reason we chose this particular ship is that it only holds 1,290 passengers and is therefore a much friendlier ship than the big and brash ones that hold between three and five thousand that most of the Americans love.
On getting onboard we were shown to our stateroom – it was huge. There was more than the usual amount of drawer space, a large balcony with basketwork chairs and a table, a king sized bed that was very comfortable and in the bathroom a full sized bath a jacuzzi type, shower and ample toiletries.
There was a full stocked mini bar and free water supplied fresh everyday, also the water was given to you free for anytime you spent sightseeing – something most ships charge you for.
They also put on full size shuttle buses to take you into the nearestpart of town which was especially good for people with a little walking difficulty and also the elderly.
It made a refreshing change not to see a photographer onboard taking pictures of you not always at convenient moments and also no Art Auctions.
Dining
The Grand Dining Room served excellent food and you had the option of dining whenever you wanted and if you prefered to sit with other people you could do so or sit at a table for two.
The ship also had five other choices of restaurants with no extra cover charge and that included Chinese, Italian, French and a Grill to name a few.
Staff
As there were over 800 staff onboard your every need was attended to quickly and efficiently.
Facilities
There were plenty of shops selling good quality items, a well stocked and comfortable library, a golf course, pool, spa, gym, computer room, along with several bars and lounges.
You could enjoy a variety of shows in the theatre. A trio also played in Horizons Bar.
Itineraries
We had 10 nights onboard with ten different places to see taking in Greece, Italy, Croatia and Turkey.
A wonderful time as we had never visited Montenegro, Monamasia or the ruins of Delos. Being a smaller ship we made friends with people from all over the world and it was also child free. All in all it was an excellent cruise which we would highly recommend, the only downfall it ended all too quickly.
